Introduction

At the present time, we are living in a digital age. Technologies have embraced every sphere of our life. Each passing day we here the advent of a new digital technology. Technologies such as robotic process and AI, including machine learning have brought huge revolutions in terms of speed and accuracy. Cloud-based platforms, mobile applications, and data analytics have streamlined operations, improved data management, and enhanced outreach efforts. Digitization has advantages of accessing real time data, making analysis of the same and help taking decisions. Digital transformation is not just a technology challenge and cannot be led by IT. Change must be driven by organisation goals and IT need to be aligned with goals/ action to enable change.

Every sector is accelerating towards its digital future. The civil Society is not an exception. COVID-19 forced the sector realize that digital transformation is a requirement. There is a growing realisation that old fashion control system simply would not suffice any more. In order to remain relevant and effective emphasis on digital adoption seem necessity. Hence, technology should be viewed as an investment centre, not a cost centre.

                                    Vinaya Mallya, Sr. Program Head – MIS & technology, Dhwani Foundation

Vinaya Mallya has over two decades of experience much of it in the IT industry, and more recently in the social sector. With a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Computer Science, she started her career with Infosys, where she spent a decade amassing technical knowledge and honing her management and customer relationship skills. She later founded a design services company for training and development of multimedia solutions. She was selected for Goldman Sachs-ISB sponsored – “10000 World Women Entrepreneurs Management Program” in 2011.In 2017, Vinaya joined Dhwani Foundation to manage the Technology program. She is involved in developing the product road-map for the software platform GOONJAN, an MIS developed specifically for the sector. With her team, she engages with NGOs across the sector, encouraging them to embark on a digital transformation journey by helping them adopt technology platforms to smoothen their operations.

Areas of expertise of Ravi Shankar is Agri value chain development, agri-Market linkage,project management and implementation, product proposition for farmers With a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture and Food Technology from IIT Kharagpur, Ravi began his career working in export oriented Basmati processing before moving on to processing equipment in the paddy value chain. Additionally, he has experience in strategy and supply chain in media companies, mainly in print media. In 2016, he began working directly with farmers in helping bring access to technology on a pay-per-use basis. He spearheaded the scale of pay-per-use farm equipment services for EM3, which led him to start his own venture.His startup worked on educating farmers/growers with market information and helping them interact directly with buyers through value addition at the source. His startup was then aqui-hired by Zomato, where he led the national sourcing of perishables. His desire to work with farmers and to see on the ground impact motivated him to join the Digital Green team.
